Message us on WhatsAppSixteen guides covering everything between booking a bike and riding it here: how the rental works, getting from the airport, the climbs, the road rules, and how to eat and shop in Portugal. It is written by the people who prepare the bikes and ride these roads, and it is free to read whether or not you book with us.
Riders coming to the Algarve, whether that is a February training bloc, a Gran Fondo week or a villa holiday with a few good rides in it. If you have booked with us, it answers the questions that come up before you land. If you have not, it shows you what the service actually involves.
No. Each guide stands on its own and every one links to the others where it helps. Most riders arrive from a search, read one, and follow a link to the two that matter for their trip. If you want a starting point, begin with The Velo Algarve Experience, which covers the whole rental from booking to collection.
Transport fares, opening hours and timetables get re-checked at every review date, since those move. The routes, climbs and road rules change rarely. Anything we cannot verify, we say so rather than guess, which is why you will not find a list of public water fountains in the hydration guide.
Brad and Juli, who founded Velo Algarve and live in Lagos. Brad prepares the bikes, drives most of the deliveries and rides these roads year-round. Nothing here is outsourced or written from a desk somewhere else, which is why the guides name specific villages, specific gradients and specific cafes rather than talking in general terms.
The guides cover the roads in general terms. The specific GPX routes are loaded onto the Garmin or Wahoo mount of every bike we deliver, chosen for the areas and climbs you tell us you want to ride. The library explains what each climb asks of you; the routes get you there.
Four of the sixteen are, since they cover our own service, the bikes and the fit process. The other twelve apply to anyone riding here on any bike: the airport transfers, the climbs, the road rules, the weather, the food and the coffee. Read those whether you rent from us, bring your own bike, or hire from someone else.
Yes. Every rental comes with a named concierge on WhatsApp for exactly that, and if you have not booked, the contact page reaches the same people. Questions that come up more than once tend to end up in the library, which is roughly how most of these sixteen came to exist.
