The central Algarve has a wider spread of terrain than most visitors realise. Inland from the coast the barrocal limestone hills begin within 15 minutes of riding, and the climbing to Alte and the Malhão summit gives you a proper mountain day with over 500m of elevation gain. The Silves route via the Arade valley is a more measured effort — smooth roads, the Moorish castle as a destination, citrus groves on the return. And the Falésia cliffs loop gives you fast, flat coastal riding when the legs need recovery. Three modes. All within reach.

The central Algarve's most demanding day. North through Paderne — where the medieval castle ruins appear above the road — to Alte, one of the Algarve's most photographed villages, with the famous Germano Bike Café as the natural stop before the main effort. The Wall of Alte is a 2km ramp averaging 7.4% that precedes the longer Malhão climb, where switchbacks carry you to over 500m. A serious day that suits riders who have already done their climbing legs on previous sessions.

West through Algoz and Estômbar along the Arade river corridor to Silves, the Algarve's former Moorish capital. The hilltop castle is visible for kilometres before you arrive. The road surface between the coast and Silves is smooth and lightly trafficked throughout. From Silves the route continues north through the barrocal toward Vale Fuzeiros and the Arade reservoir, returning via a different line through the citrus groves. A well-balanced day that suits riders who want consistent riding without committing to a full mountain effort.

East from the central Algarve coast through the resort road corridor to Vilamoura marina, then along the clifftop above Falésia beach — red sandstone cliffs dropping into the Atlantic, one of the most striking short stretches of road on the central Algarve coast. Return inland through the golf resort roads or loop back via Quarteira and Almancil. Flat to gently rolling with excellent road surfaces throughout. A natural recovery day or easy spin that rewards a tempo effort with genuinely good scenery.

The road surfaces through the Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago estates are as good as anything in the Algarve — maintained to a standard you rarely find outside of a professional race venue. I use the pine forest loop as a warm-up before heading north to Loulé or east toward Faro. Early morning through the estate before the day heats up is genuinely one of the most pleasant rides on the central coast. The Cervélo Soloist on those roads feels exactly right.

Yes. The coastal corridor through Quinta do Lago, Almancil, and west toward Vilamoura is genuinely flat and well-surfaced. A 50–60km circuit is achievable with minimal climbing and the road quality throughout is excellent. For harder days, Loulé and the barrocal are close.
Our minimum rental period is 3 days. The delivery and fitting process is the same regardless of rental length, and riders consistently find they want more days once they have the bike. Three days gives you enough time to properly explore the area.
It's one of the best setups in the Algarve for exactly that. Head out early on the resort roads and the Ria Formosa coast loop, be back before the heat builds, and the rest of the day is yours. The roads are quiet enough in the early morning that even a summer ride feels relaxed.
