Last updated: 18 May 2026
Governing law: Republic of Portugal
Velo Algarve is a trading name of Planaltos Opinativos, Lda., a company incorporated under the laws of Portugal, with registered office at Rua João Manuel Paulo Rocha, n.º 12, R/C D, 8600-750 Lagos, Portugal, registered with the Portuguese Commercial Registry under company registration and tax number (NIPC) 519261380.
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern all rental agreements between Velo Algarve (“we,” “us,” “our”) and the individual making a booking (“you,” “the Renter”). By completing a booking through our website at veloalgarve.com, by telephone, or via WhatsApp, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms in full.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not proceed with a booking.
These Terms apply to all rental transactions and are incorporated by reference into any booking confirmation issued by Velo Algarve.
To rent equipment from Velo Algarve, you must:
By completing a booking, you confirm that you meet all eligibility requirements. We reserve the right to refuse rental to any person who, in our reasonable assessment, does not meet these requirements or poses a safety risk to themselves or others.
Bookings are made through our online booking system (powered by Booqable) at veloalgarve.com, by telephone, or via WhatsApp. A booking is not confirmed until you receive a written confirmation from Velo Algarve.
At the time of booking, you are required to provide:
Prior to delivery, a member of the Velo Algarve team will contact you to confirm your sizing, fit preferences, and any outstanding details. This call is a required part of our service. Failure to respond to our pre-delivery contact within a reasonable time may result in delayed delivery.
A binding rental contract is formed when we issue a written booking confirmation. These Terms are incorporated into that contract in full.
All rental prices are listed on our Pricing page at veloalgarve.com/pricing/. Prices are quoted in Euros (€) and include VAT at the applicable Portuguese rate.
A delivery and collection fee applies to all rentals. Fees are calculated based on the distance from our base to your accommodation and are communicated at the time of booking. Delivery fees are listed at veloalgarve.com/pricing/.
Payment is processed securely through Booqable. We accept the payment methods listed on our website at the time of booking. Full payment is required at the time of booking confirmation unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed in writing.
Prices displayed on our website are subject to change. The price applicable to your booking is confirmed at the time of your booking confirmation. Price changes after confirmation do not affect confirmed bookings.
A security deposit is required for each rental. The applicable amount will be specified during the booking process and/or in the Rental Agreement provided to the Renter.
The security deposit will be secured by way of a pre-authorisation on the payment card provided by the Renter. The pre-authorisation will be processed prior to the release of the equipment.
The security deposit is intended to secure the Renter’s obligations under these Terms, including but not limited to damage, loss, theft, late return, missing accessories, cleaning costs resulting from abnormal use, and any other amounts lawfully due to Velo Algarve.
Following collection and inspection of the equipment, the pre-authorisation will normally be released within fourteen (14) days, provided no damage, loss, theft, outstanding charges or other contractual breaches have been identified.
Velo Algarve may retain or apply all or part of the security deposit towards any sums due under these Terms.
The existence of a security deposit does not limit the Renter’s liability. Where the loss suffered by Velo Algarve exceeds the amount of the security deposit, the Renter shall remain liable for the balance.
The minimum rental period is 3 days. No exceptions apply unless agreed in writing by Velo Algarve prior to booking.
We deliver to your hotel, villa, or accommodation address anywhere within the Algarve region of Portugal. The agreed delivery location must be accessible by vehicle and must have a responsible adult present at the time of delivery to accept and sign for the equipment.
Delivery times are agreed at the time of booking and confirmed prior to delivery. We will make every reasonable effort to deliver at the agreed time. In the event of unforeseen delay, we will notify you as soon as practicable.
At delivery, a member of the Velo Algarve team will:
You are responsible for checking that the equipment delivered matches your booking confirmation. Any discrepancies must be raised at the point of delivery.
At delivery, the equipment will be inspected jointly by Velo Algarve and the Renter. Photographs and/or written records may be taken to document the condition of the equipment at the commencement of the rental period.
We will collect the equipment from your accommodation at the agreed time on the final day of your rental period. You must ensure that all equipment is available and accessible at the agreed collection time. Failure to make equipment available for collection may result in additional charges.
Upon collection, Velo Algarve may carry out a further inspection of the equipment. Photographs and/or written records may be taken to document its condition upon return. Any damage identified beyond normal wear and tear may result in charges under Clause 7.5.
Changes to your delivery or collection address must be communicated in writing at least 48 hours before the scheduled delivery or collection. Additional delivery fees may apply for address changes that fall outside the original delivery zone.
Subject to availability, the rental includes:
The following items are available as add-ons at additional cost:
Specific equipment models may vary. All equipment is maintained to professional standards and subject to annual fleet renewal.
All equipment is delivered in good working order, clean, and serviced. You are required to inspect the equipment at delivery and raise any concerns immediately. Use of the equipment after delivery without raising concerns will be taken as your acceptance that the equipment was delivered in satisfactory condition.
You are responsible for the equipment from the point of delivery until collection. You must:
The equipment must not be used:
The Renter is responsible for taking reasonable care of the equipment throughout the rental period and returning it in substantially the same condition as received, subject to normal wear and tear resulting from proper use.
If any equipment is lost, stolen, not returned, or damaged during the rental period, Velo Algarve may charge the reasonable cost of repair or replacement, as applicable.
| Item | Replacement Cost |
|---|---|
| Carbon Cervélo road bicycle (frame or full bike) | At current wholesale value — €4,150 |
| SRAM Force AXS groupset | €1,500 |
| Garmin GPS unit | €300 |
| Helmet | €150 |
| QUOC shoes | €150 |
| Saddle bag contents (pump, tubes, tyre plugs, spare batteries, tools) | Charged per item at replacement cost, ranging from €20 to €100 per item |
Where damage can reasonably be repaired, Velo Algarve may charge the cost of repair instead of the replacement cost.
Any charges relating to loss, theft or damage will be notified to the Renter and, where applicable, supported by reasonable evidence of the repair or replacement cost.
Any such charges may be deducted from the security deposit and, where the amount of the loss exceeds the security deposit, the Renter may be responsible for the balance.
Road cycling is a physical activity that carries inherent risks, including but not limited to: road traffic, road surface hazards, weather conditions, mechanical failure, physical exhaustion, and collision. By renting equipment from Velo Algarve and using it on public roads, you voluntarily assume all inherent risks associated with road cycling.
You acknowledge that you are physically capable of, and sufficiently experienced in, road cycling to operate a high-performance road bicycle safely on the roads of the Algarve.
You are solely responsible for:
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable Portuguese law:
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable Portuguese or EU law.
Velo Algarve may maintain insurance policies in connection with its business activities from time to time.
Any insurance maintained by Velo Algarve is intended for the benefit of Velo Algarve and does not alter the Renter’s responsibilities under these Terms unless expressly stated otherwise in writing.
Unless expressly confirmed by Velo Algarve, renters should not assume that any insurance maintained by Velo Algarve provides cover for loss, theft, damage to the rented equipment, personal injury, medical expenses, travel disruption, or any other loss arising during the rental period.
We strongly recommend that all renters obtain appropriate personal accident, medical and travel insurance covering road cycling activities before commencing their rental period.
Details of any insurance arrangements applicable to a particular rental may be provided separately where relevant.
A helmet is available as an add-on with your rental. Under Portuguese law, helmet use is not compulsory for non-motorised bicycles. However, Velo Algarve strongly recommends wearing a helmet at all times.
The GPS devices that can be supplied with the equipment are intended solely for navigation purposes.
Velo Algarve does not use such devices to track, monitor or store the rider’s location data.
Velo Algarve reserves the right to require identity verification prior to releasing rental equipment.
Identity verification may be carried out through an independent third-party verification provider.
Failure to complete any required verification process may result in cancellation of the booking and refusal to release the equipment.
Further information regarding the processing of personal data is available in our Privacy Policy.
Each rental bike is equipped with a pre-loaded saddle bag containing TPU tubes, tyre plugs, spare SRAM AXS batteries, and a mini electric pump for self-sufficient roadside repairs. By accepting the rental, you confirm that you have sufficient mechanical knowledge to use this equipment, or that you accept the risk of being unable to do so.
In the event of a serious mechanical failure during your rental period that renders the bike unrideable and is not caused by your own actions, contact us immediately. We will assess the issue and, subject to the nature of the fault, provide a replacement or arrange for assistance. We are not liable for costs or losses arising from time spent off the bike due to mechanical issues beyond our control.
Mechanical issues or damage caused by misuse, neglect, collision, or use in breach of these Terms are the financial responsibility of the Renter under the provisions of Clause 7.5.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, bookings relating to equipment rentals for specific dates or periods may not be subject to statutory withdrawal rights applicable to distance contracts.
Nothing in these Terms affects any mandatory consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
As specified in the rental agreement.
Requests to modify booking dates, duration, or location must be made in writing at least 7 days before the original rental start date. Modifications are subject to availability and may result in a revised price. We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate modification requests but cannot guarantee availability.
In the event that we are unable to fulfil your booking due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to equipment failure, severe weather, or force majeure events), we will notify you as soon as practicable and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date. We will not be liable for any costs or losses beyond the refund of rental fees paid.
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, extreme weather, government restrictions, natural disasters, or public health emergencies.
You agree to behave responsibly at all times when using the equipment and to comply with all applicable Portuguese laws. We reserve the right to terminate your rental without refund if, in our reasonable assessment, you are using the equipment in a manner that is dangerous, unlawful, or likely to cause damage to the equipment or harm to others.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Portugal. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Portuguese courts, unless applicable consumer protection law provides otherwise.
In the event of a consumer dispute, the consumer may refer the matter to the Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo do Algarve, available at consumoalgarve.pt.
Further information regarding consumer dispute resolution is available at consumidor.gov.pt.
Velo Algarve will provide information regarding the competent alternative dispute resolution entity upon request and in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. Amendments will be posted on our website at veloalgarve.com/terms/ and will apply to bookings made after the date of amendment. Bookings confirmed before any amendment remain governed by the Terms in force at the time of confirmation.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable under applicable law, that provision shall be severed from the remainder of these Terms, which shall continue in full force and effect.
