FAQs
Everything you need to know before you book — the bikes, delivery, fitting, pricing, routes, and riding in the Algarve.
SECTION ONE
Every bike in the Velo Algarve fleet is a Cervélo Soloist — a full carbon aero road bike positioned between Cervélo's S5 and R5. It handles training days, gran fondos, and multi-day riding blocks with equal confidence. The fleet is refreshed every season. You are not riding last year's rental bike.
SRAM Force AXS — fully wireless electronic shifting. No cables to stretch, no mechanical indexing to go out of alignment mid-ride. It is the second tier in SRAM's AXS range, one step below Red, and the same wireless platform used by professional teams. It shifts cleanly, it is reliable, and you will not need to think about it.
The saddle bag on every bike includes a spare SRAM AXS battery as standard. If the rear derailleur battery dies on the road, swap it out — the process takes under a minute. The front derailleur battery can also be used in the rear in an emergency if needed. We brief you on this at delivery so you are prepared before your first ride.
Yes. Every bike is serviced to professional team standards before delivery. Components are replaced on a rolling schedule — not when they fail. If a bike does not meet the standard we set, it does not go out. You will not receive a bike with worn brake pads, a stretched chain, or a creaking bottom bracket.
Every season. We replace the entire fleet annually. Most rental operators run bikes for two to three years — we do not. A bike that has been rented hard for two seasons is not a race-ready bike. Annual renewal is the single biggest difference between our fleet and what you will find at most rental companies.
The fleet covers a full size range to suit riders from approximately 160cm to 195cm. Use the fit guide at booking to select your frame, or message us on WhatsApp before you book and we will advise based on your height, inseam, and the geometry of what you ride at home.
Yes. We support Look and Shimano SPD-SL cleat standards. Your pedal preference is confirmed during the pre-delivery concierge call and the bike is set up accordingly before we arrive. If you ride a different standard, message us before booking and we will confirm compatibility.
Every saddle bag ships fully stocked: TPU inner tubes, tyre plugs, a spare SRAM AXS battery, and a high-end mini electric pump. A water bottle and two energy gels are included with every rental. You have everything needed to handle a roadside mechanical without calling us.
SECTION TWO
We deliver to your hotel, villa, apartment, or resort anywhere in the Algarve. Before delivery, your concierge calls to confirm measurements, pedal type, and any fit preferences. The bike arrives pre-fitted. We run you through the bike, the saddle bag kit, and the GPS routes on the spot and leave when you are confident. Collection works the same way — we come to you.
We deliver across the full length of the Algarve — from Sagres and Lagos in the west to Tavira in the east. Coverage includes Portimão, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Faro, Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, and everywhere between. If you are not sure whether your accommodation is covered, message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm the same day.
Yes — delivery is priced transparently by distance from our base in Lagos and is shown at checkout before you confirm. There are no hidden fees. The charge reflects the round trip to your accommodation and back. Full delivery pricing is at /pricing/.
Delivery times are confirmed during the pre-delivery call. We work around your schedule — check-in times, arrival windows, and when you want to ride first. We ask for a two-hour window and confirm the specific time via WhatsApp the day before delivery.
Yes. You or someone from your group needs to be there. Delivery includes a full bike walkthrough, a fit check, and a run-through of the saddle bag kit. It takes around 20–30 minutes. This is not a drop-and-go — it is how we make sure the bike is right before you ride it.
Yes. We deliver throughout the Faro area including the airport hotel corridor. Book in advance, confirm your hotel address and arrival details at checkout, and your bike will be ready when you check in. No wasted morning sorting logistics — you can ride on day one.
Most hotels, villas, and resorts will store a bike in a secure area — a garage, a bike room, or a ground-floor storage space. We recommend confirming with your accommodation before arrival. If your hotel has restrictions, message us and we will advise on the best approach based on where you are staying. We have delivered to most major properties in the Algarve.
We come to you at the agreed time on your final day. No return trip, no packing, no shop drop-off. Give us a collection window that works with your checkout or departure and we handle the rest. If your plans change, message us as early as possible and we will adjust.
SECTION THREE
Book online at veloalgarve.com/book-a-bike/. Select your dates, frame size, and any add-ons. After booking, your concierge contacts you to confirm measurements, pedal type, and delivery details before the bike is prepared. The whole process takes a few minutes online and everything else is handled before we arrive.
Three days. We do not offer single-day or two-day rentals. The minimum exists because the delivery, fitting, and setup process is identical regardless of duration — and a cyclist who has travelled to the Algarve rarely needs fewer than three days on the bike.
Pricing starts at €100 per day for a 1–3 day rental. Longer rentals reduce the daily rate: €95 for 4–5 days, €90 for 6–7 days, €85 for 8–10 days, and €80 for 11–14 days. Delivery is priced separately by distance. Add-on pricing for helmet, shoes, and Garmin GPS is at /pricing/.
At booking you can add a premium helmet, QUOC cycling shoes, and a Garmin GPS unit. All add-ons are replaced on the same schedule as the bikes — regularly enough that quality never slips. If you need something specific not listed at checkout, message us on WhatsApp before booking and we will confirm whether we can accommodate it.
For peak season — February through May and September through October — book at least two weeks ahead. Groups of four or more should book four weeks ahead. Outside peak season, a week's notice is usually enough. Booking early is the only guarantee of your preferred frame size. The fleet is intentionally small — we do not overextend.
Yes. Contact us via WhatsApp as early as possible. We will do our best to accommodate date changes. Our full cancellation policy is outlined at checkout and included in your booking confirmation. Travel plans change — the earlier you tell us, the more options we have to work with.
Yes — a refundable security deposit is taken at booking via our booking system. It is returned in full on collection of the bike in the condition it was delivered. Deposit amount and terms are shown at checkout before you confirm. We do not charge for normal wear — only for damage beyond what a bike sustains in ordinary use.
For most cyclists travelling to the Algarve, renting makes more sense than travelling with a bike. Airline fees typically run €50–€150 each way, plus the cost and risk of a travel case. The Cervélo Soloist on SRAM Force AXS is a better bike than most cyclists own and arrives pre-fitted to your measurements. The only reasons to bring your own are very specific fit requirements or event racing where you need the exact geometry you trained on. For a training bloc, a gran fondo, or a cycling holiday, rent.
SECTION FOUR
Before delivery, your concierge calls to confirm saddle height, reach preference, and cleat standard. The bike is adjusted before it leaves us. On arrival we do a final check and make any tweaks. If something feels wrong after your first ride, message us — we will come back or walk you through the adjustment on WhatsApp. The fit is not a one-shot process.
Height, inseam length, and your pedal standard are the essentials. If you know your saddle height from your bike at home, share it and we will match it. Riders with a professional bike fit on record are welcome to send the numbers — we will replicate it as closely as the Cervélo allows. You do not need a precise fit history. We work from what you give us.
A Garmin GPS is available as an add-on at booking and curated GPX routes are pre-loaded before delivery. Routes are selected based on your base location, ability level, and how many days you are riding. If you have a specific route in mind — the Foia climb, the Sagres coastal loop, the Alcaria do Cume ascent from Tavira — tell us and we will make sure it is on the device.
Foia is the highest point in the Algarve at 902m. The climb from Monchique is approximately 8km at an average gradient of 7%, with the upper section pushing steeper. It is a genuine mountain ascent — not brutal by Alpine standards, but honest and demanding. It is a regular stage finish on the Volta ao Algarve and the benchmark climb for any serious training week in the western Algarve. Most riders factor in a café stop in Monchique village before the ascent.
The three signature rides from Lagos are: the coastal run south-west to Sagres via the EN268 — approximately 50km of Atlantic clifftop roads with almost no traffic; the Foia climb out of Monchique — 8km at 7% to 902m; and the quiet inland roads through Bensafrim and the Barrocal for easier days. The EN125 east towards Portimão is fast and well-surfaced for tempo work and intervals.
Yes. Winter in the Algarve is genuinely mild — temperatures rarely drop below 10°C and are often 15–18°C on clear days. The Volta ao Algarve professional race runs every February, which tells you everything about how rideable the conditions are. The roads are significantly quieter than spring and summer. December and January can bring Atlantic weather fronts, but wet days are the exception rather than the rule. Many training groups base here specifically to avoid the northern European winter.
March through May and September through November are the sweet spots — reliable dry weather, 18–24°C temperatures, and far less road traffic than summer. February is when the pro peloton arrives for the Volta ao Algarve. July and August are warm and busy on the coastal roads but the inland roads and early morning starts remain excellent. There is no bad month to ride here — only busier and quieter ones.
Every bike ships with a stocked saddle bag for roadside repairs — tubes, tyre plugs, pump, spare SRAM AXS battery. For anything beyond a roadside fix, message your concierge on WhatsApp. We will come to you or arrange a replacement bike depending on your location and remaining rental days. You are not left to manage it alone.
Book your dates online and we will be in touch to sort everything before we arrive
